10 Different Ways to Work Online and Make

How do you make money online? Whether you want to make money part-time or full-time, working online gives you many different options to do so. Here are 10 different ways to work online and make money (along with a bonus extra idea at the end).

1) Freelance Writing

Freelance writing offers a great way to make money online. Sites like Upwork allow you to work as a freelancer on other people's projects while also making some money of your own. As long as you have basic writing skills, Upwork is a great option for making money online from home. For example, I've been able to make over $400 in two weeks by doing freelance writing for various clients around my area. It's definitely possible for those with a computer, an internet connection, and strong attention to detail. And since most jobs post on Friday or Monday, consider setting deadlines for yourself so that you can meet them!

2) Getting Paid to Click Ads

Paid-to-click ads are one of those ways you can make money online that many people think is too good to be true. After all, they involve clicking on links to get paid, so they sound like a pyramid scheme. But they’re legitimate, and you can make money by clicking on them. Many paid-to-click ads are essentially scams designed to take your money or personal information. So if you want start making money online with PTCs—or at least avoid being scammed.

3) Google Opinion Rewards

Sometimes all you need is a few cents here or there. Google Opinion Rewards is an app that will pay you for your opinions. You are given surveys about various topics, which you complete in exchange for Google Play credits. It doesn't take much time, and if you do it consistently, it can be a significant amount of money.

4) Get Paid for Online Surveys

While many legitimate survey sites require you to enter your personal information before you start taking surveys, there are a few that do not. While most of these legitimate survey sites do require you to sign up, they don’t ask for your money. For example, there is a popular site called Toluna where you can earn money by taking surveys right from your inbox. It doesn’t take much time or effort, just answering questions about products or services that interest you.

5) Getting Paid as a Virtual Assistant

If you're looking for work that allows you to work at home, then being a virtual assistant could be your answer. Virtual assistants perform a wide range of services for clients, everything from administrative tasks like scheduling appointments or taking notes, to more complex projects like writing articles or blogs for websites. The best part is that you can do it all remotely as long as you have an internet connection and some basic computer skills. To get started finding virtual assistant jobs, check out sites like Freelancer, Upwork, and Guru.

6) Selling on Etsy, EBay, or Amazon

Some people sell items they create on these sites, while others sell stuff they find at garage sales. Listing things you want is a great way to move items that you don’t want or need anymore. If you’re selling your own inventory, make sure your photos are professional-quality so customers are inclined to buy. You can even save on advertising costs by using printable or creating your own website with an ecommerce plug-in like Shopify. Most of all, be honest about what you’re selling—you don’t have a reputation as a resource for everyone who sells on these sites so if you get called out for false claims, it could impact sales for years to come.

7) Drop shipping on Shopify

One of our favorite ways to make money online is by using Shopify. With Shopify, you can either create an online store or sell products using a market place model. If you're creating an online store, you’ll need to pay $29/month with no additional payment. However, if you want to run a market place business on Shopify, there's no monthly fee—just a transaction fee of 1% + 20¢ per sale (for standard orders). This means that every time someone makes a purchase from your store, it'll cost you about 25 cents. However, it’s worth noting that if your total sales volume exceeds $5,000 per month then Shopify will waive their transaction fees.

8) Sell Stock Photos on iStockPhoto

Why not sell stock photos online? With sites like iStockPhoto, you can earn royalties each time your image is purchased. Many users who sell on these types of websites also make money through affiliate marketing, which means they receive a percentage of sales if someone clicks on an affiliate link in their content and purchases a product or service. You can also create your own stock photo website through Shopify—it’s free to set up! Here’s a complete guide for how to build a photography website that you can use as a platform for sharing, selling, buying, and earning revenue from your photography skills.

9) Selling Handmade Items on Etsy, etc

While some of us dream of working from home in our pajamas, for others, it’s a necessity. And not just for stay-at-home parents—many people need flexibility in their work hours because they’re single parents or only able to work part time. One of my friends worked as a secretary until she had her first baby; when she was laid off shortly after her maternity leave, her boss offered her an unofficial arrangement where she could keep working one day a week from home while he was figuring out his budget cuts. She jumped at the chance—aside from keeping food on their table, being able to spend more time with her son made all other downsides irrelevant

10) Become an Online Tutor

Tutoring is one of the most accessible ways for freelancers to work online. All you need is some teaching experience, a degree, and professional references—or even just a background in a particular subject. If you're qualified, it's easy to get started as an online tutor; many websites will let you create an account for free and then help connect you with students who need help with certain subjects. For example, Tutor Vista offers English teachers $20-25 per hour or $1-5 per minute ($35-80 per hour if you include prep time). While that doesn't sound like much, working just 2 hours daily can pay more than minimum wage here in the U.S.—and there are no teaching requirements on top of your education level.
